National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
National Take-Back Days occur twice each year in the spring and fall (usually April and October).

Middlesex Drug Take-Back Program
The Ayer Police Department, in conjunction with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, offers a 24-hour drop box for disposal of expired and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
Approved items:
- Prescription and over-the-coutner medications
- Vitamins
- Medication samples
- Veterinary medications
- Narcotics
Non-approved items:
- Needles (any type) - See SHARPS Disposal
- IV bags
- Inhalers
- Personal care products
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Thermometers & other mercury items
- Empty containers (these are safe to dispose of in your regular recycling bin)
