National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

National Take-Back Days occur twice each year in the spring and fall (usually April and October).

Middlesex Drug Take-Back Program

The Ayer Police Department, in conjunction with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, offers a 24-hour drop box for disposal of expired and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

Approved items:

  • Prescription and over-the-coutner medications
  • Vitamins
  • Medication samples
  • Veterinary medications
  • Narcotics

Non-approved items:

  • Needles (any type) - See SHARPS Disposal
  • IV bags
  • Inhalers
  • Personal care products
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Thermometers & other mercury items
  • Empty containers (these are safe to dispose of in your regular recycling bin)
