Parking Task Force
The Downtown Parking Task Force was established in
late 2006 by the Comprehensive Plan Implementation
Committee (CPIC) with support by the BOS. The Task Force
met on three occasions and formed three subcommittees plus
an informal fourth to investigate hybrid solutions. These
subcommittees met regularly and reported their findings
back to the Task Force at a May 5 Charette (see Report).

Commuter Parking Options
With the temporary closing of the Depot Square commuter parking lot, please note the following information on downtown parking options for the commuter station. The Ayer Police Department has issued guideline for street parking which are as follows:
Below is a list of streets within a short walking distance of Depot Square where train commuters are allowed to park all day:
• West St., on the left side from the 2 hour parking sign North to Cambridge St. ± 15 spaces.
•
• Lawton St., on the left side only from Cambridge St. to Groton St. ± 25 spaces.
•
• Pleasant St., on the right side heading South (one way) from Cambridge St. to 9 Pleasant St. at the 2 hour parking sign ± 13 spaces.
•
• Old Fire Station property on Washington St. Do not park blocking the bay door of the addition on the Main St. side of property. ± 7 spaces.
•
• Newton St., on the left side adjacent to the Church lot. ± 7 spaces, including parking in front of the jersey barriers that are blocking the Newton St. exit.
•
• Central Ave., South side from Post Office Lot driveway to Norwood Ave. and the North side from Columbia St. to Norwood Ave. ± 30 spaces.
There are ± 97 parking spaces at these locations. Please refer to the memorandum from Chief Rizzo for complete instructions on where to park during this temporary interruption in dedicated commuter parking.

Task Force Subcommittees
- Rail-Trail Site Exploratory Subcommittee – Purpose of which is to continue to investigate the appropriateness of this site and to establish criteria for development of a parking facility in this location.
- Surface Parking Exploratory Subcommittee – Purpose of which is to investigate the possibility of assembling a set of surface parking lots to provide the required number of spaces, all within ¼ mile of the existing platform. Pros and cons of each option should be assessed.
- Political and Communication Subcommittee – A group designed to move as quickly as possible to answer the points made on the letter to the Town from MART and to serve as liaison on other communication matters regarding the Town and outside parties on issue of the parking.
