Special Recognitions

On August 31, Chief Paul B. Fillebrown retired after forty-four years of service with the Ayer Fire Department. Appointed probationary firefighter on September 5, 1962, Chief Fillebrown moved up through the ranks until achieving the appointment of Chief of Department on August 6, 1992. State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan officiated at Chief Fillebrown's retirement celebration with approximately 200 guests and more than 20 speakers and awards. Chief Fillebrown is an individual of great compassion and natural leadership abilities. We will miss him.
Fulltime Captain Robert J. Pedrazzi was appointed Chief Fillebrown's successor on October 10, bringing many years of firefighting service. Chief Pedrazzi became a probationary firefighter with Ayer on April 6, 1977.

Highlighting the holiday season, this department sponsored our first annual charitable drives. Firefighter/Emt Gerry Peters, with the assistance of FF/EMT Mike Hamel ran a food drive for Loaves & Fishes. Department secretary Lisa E. White ran a drive for the Sterling Animal Shelter. We thank all those who so generously contributed to help make the holidays a happier time for area residents and for homeless pets.
