Ayer Affordable Housing Trust


Purpose:

The purpose of the Ayer Affordable Housing Trust (the “Trust”) is to provide for the creation and preservation of affordable housing in Ayer, for the benefit of low and moderate income households and for the funding of community housing, as defined in and in accordance with the provisions of G.L. Chapter 44B. The Trust shall be governed by a Board of Trustees (the “Board”) in accordance with G.L. c. 44, §55C, as amended from time to time, and the authority granted by Town Meeting. The Trust was unanimously approved at approved at the Fall Town Meeting, October 26, 2020 and the respective Bylaws were unanimously approved during the Spring town Meeting on April 26, 2021.

The Housing Trust is goverened by a 7-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Ayer Select Board, after consulting with the Ayer Affordable Housing Committee, with administration support from the Town’s Community and Economic Development Office. The Ayer Affordable Housing Trust was started with monies from the Community Preservation Fund. The Board will meet no less than 4 times a year, as stated in the Trust Bylaws.  The Ayer Affordable Housing Committee will support the Ayer Affordable Housing Trust in the development of review of possible projects and programs.
