Nasoya

Nasoya Update - March 21, 2022

First and foremost, Nasoya would like to apologize and any inconveniences it caused. Since the RTO was introduced in 2019, Nasoya has managed to create a safe environment free from odor for our neighbors and we went a full year without an odor complaint. Unfortunately for us, our RTO was taking offline in late November of 2021 due to multiply mishaps in our wastewater process. Constant flood of wastewater into the RTO's bed chamber with high H2S concentration severely corroded the interior of the RTO, making it unsafe to operate after our scheduled preventative maintenance on November 18th, 2021. The RTO manufacturer through his service report, advised Nasoya to take the RTO down to re-fabricate and re-build the interior (bed chamber).

The RTO was taken offline on late November and the scrubber was brought online. The scrubber, been classified as a wet scrubber is not designed to run in a harsh winter weather. All our pipes, chemical lines, sump pumps, hoses etc. kept freezing, making it impossible to operate. With re-fabrication and heat tracing, our team managed to heat trace all frozen parts to efficiently run the system. On 1/29/22, the RTO interior rebuilt was completed and the system was online until we faced another mishap from the facilities side of our operation. Please see below.

  • On 2/23/22 at 3:00PM, the building air compressor, which was been used to run and support the RTO as we were performing maintenance on the RTO Air Compressor. The compressor lost pressure due to condensate in the system and the RTO went down.
  • On 2/23/22 at approximately 3:30pm, the scrubber was online and operational. Two portable air compressors were ordered to bring the RTO back online.
  • On 2/24/22, the two portable air compressors were delivered at approximately 4:15pm.
  • On 2/24/22 at 4:30PM, the portable compressors were online to run the RTO (around the same time the 1st and 2nd odor complaint came in). Due to frozen pipes, valves, gas lines and low temperature, it took about 2-3 hours to heat the RTO and have it in “Run Mode”. At 7:00pm the RTO was online and the scrubber taken offline.
  • The two portable Air compressors run the RTO until 2/28/22.
  • The RTO compressor came online on 2/28/22 at 9:00am and is operational.

 Long Term Plan

  • Current RTO air compressor will be taken offline once the two-replacement units arrives at the facility in late April. The two air compressors will prevent us from relying on the facilities air compressor.
  •  A new location for the two compressors is in the process of being built to prevent moisture damage. The new location will be housed in a temperature-controlled room.
