Historic Resources Inventory

The use of CPC funds for this inventory survey from September 2007 to June 2008 resulted in the compilation of a list of over 100 buildings and areas in the Town of Ayer that were considered to be of historic interest. The list includes photos of these properties, recommendations of certain properties to be considered for the National Historic Register, and photos from the 1905 William Sargent book “Town of Ayer: Some of the Leading Industries, Principal Buildings & Prominent Citizens”. The research for this survey considered buildings and the areas built before the year 1960 and selected from the Community-wide Preliminary Historic Resource Survey Plan of 2003. Many of the properties or areas were recorded according to MHC standards using inventory forms: A: Area, B: Buildings, E: Burial Ground, H: Parks & Landscapes. This inventory serves as a crucial part of Ayer’s preservation planning process by providing a foundation for further study and momentum for new initiatives. This study also brings opportunities for community awareness, education, and support. Total request was $10,000 in CPA funds.
