Construction Update - Pearl Street Water Main Replacement

Project begins June 18, 2018

The Ayer Department of Public Works will be replacing the water main on Pearl Street from Groton Street to Taft Street.  This will replace the 100 year old water pipe with a new 8-inch ductile iron water main. New water services to the houses will be installed from the new water main to the property line (property line to the house in the home owners’ responsibility). The project will also involve repairs to the sewer pipe. The pipe trench will be paved weekly and the DPW will repave the entire road in 2019.

Work will begin on Monday, June 18. Work this week will involve installation of temporary water mains on both sides of the road and some pavement cutting. The temporary pipe will be buried in shallow trenches across driveways and roads. Actual pipe installation will start the week of June 25.

The road will be closed to through traffic during construction hours but will be open to the local residents and public safety vehicles.
