Ayer Tree Management Workgroup

The Ayer Department of Public Works and the Town Manager are forming a Tree Management Workgroup to develop and implement a Town Tree Management Plan. The DPW will be applying for a DCR Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Grant to hire a consultant to work with us and develop the plan and we need strong community support to make this a successful program.East Main Street Bridge

The Workgroup will be responsible for:

  • Developing the scope of the plan
  • Assisting in the completion of the plan
  • Developing a 5 year tree management budget
  • Educating the public on the benefits of Ayer’s tree management program

We anticipate the workgroup will begin meeting (remotely) in mid-October and continue with monthly meetings as necessary to complete and implement the plan.

The plan will consider the diversity, distribution, and general condition of the inventoried trees and provide a prioritized system for managing public trees. The following tasks are included:

  • Inventory of trees, stumps, and planting sites along the street ROW and within public parks and other town-owned property
  • Analysis of tree inventory data
  • Development of a plan that prioritizes the recommended tree maintenance
