Removing Leaves and Debris from Catch Basins Helps Keep Water Flowing

With heavy rain expected this weekend, you can help keep the water from flooding yards and roads.  All you need is a rake, shovel, or pitchfork. Clear leaves from catch basins near your (or an elderly neighbor’s) house or business and dispose of the leaves with your yard waste. Clear other debris from on top of catch basins and place any trash in a trash can. Use a rake or pitch fork to clear. Do not put your feet and hands into the storm drain -- all kinds of debris collect there that could be dangerous. If you believe an emergency response is necessary, call  Ayer Public Works at 978-772-8240 or Ayer Police Dispatch to report a clogged catch basin or flooded street.

The DPW appreciates your help keeping Ayer safe and (somewhat) dry.
