Your holiday gift wrapping paper is not recyclable! The materials that go into making some wrapping paper result in it not always being accepted for recycling. Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver colored shapes, glitter, plastics, etc. which cannot be recycled. On average, about 22% to 27% by weight of what ends up at recycling plants is considered contaminated (unwanted), according to research findings published by the Container Recycling Institute (CRI). The holiday season means more contamination than usual. Please put your used wrapping paper in your Town of Ayer trash bags.
