Swimming Lessons

Swim lessons begin July 9th with new and returning Red Cross certified swim instructors. Levels go from 1-6 with level 1 for those who are age 4 and up and are beginners with very little swimming experience. Classes run for two weeks, Monday-Thursday.  There are also courses for those younger than 4 (Mommy/Daddy and me) and an Intro to Water Safety course for those over 12 interested in learning lifeguard skills.

Registration forms can be downloaded here or picked-up outside the Parks office on the third floor of Town Hall. Lessons range in price from $50-$60 for residents and $60-$70 for non-residents, depending on the level being taught.

Mommy/Daddy and Me
Six Week Session
Ages 6 months through 3 years
Saturdays 11:00 - 11:30
Beginning July 7

The Ayer Park Department and Sandy Pond are pleased to offer “Mommy or Daddy and Me” classes! The classes are designed for parent/child swim in which our certified instructors introduce your children to the water and also to teach parents water safety and how to help their child develop early swimming skills. This is a fun course with plenty of games and excitement for everyone!

Level 1: 11:30am or 5:00pm
July 9 to July 19 for session I
July 30 to August 9 for session II
Emphasis for beginners is water safety and gaining confidence in the water by learning how to float and hold their breath briefly under water. By the end swimmers should be able to float on their stomachs and backs and hold their breath under water.

Level 2: 10:45am or 5:30pm
July 9 to July 19 for session I
July 30 to August 9 for session II
Swimmers learn basic backstroke and front crawl and continue to work on their confidence in the water.

Level 3: 10:00am or 6:00pm
July 9 to July 19 for session I
July 30 to August 9 for session II
Teaches backstroke and side stroke and continued work on front crawl and other basic strokes.

Level 4: 9:15am or 6:30pm

July 30 to August 9 for session II
Swimmers should be very comfortable in the water, are already familiar with basic strokes, learning dives, students at this level will be going out to the large dock.

Levels 5 and 6: 8:30am 45 minute class
July 9 to July 19 for session I
July 30 to August 9 for session II
Levels 5 and 6 are for older children who would like to work on endurance swimming, diving and learning more advanced water safety and rescue skills. This class requires a minimum number of participants to be held.

If there is enough interest, we are considering offering adult classes for beginner adult swimmers or those wishing to improve their form.
