Transfer Station Services

Ayer offers a lower cost alternative to expensive curbside trash collection. The Transfer Station (100 Groton Harvard Road) accepts household trash, recyclables and other waste materials. Access requires an annual permit and is for Ayer residents only. 

• Pay As You Throw Trash Bags  encourage recycling and allow you to reduce your waste disposal costs.
• Single-Stream recycling (see below for more information).
• No Additional charge to drop off yard waste, clean and dry clothing (doesn't have to be wearable), food waste, rechargeable batteries, florescent light bulbs, thermostats, thermometers, and waste oil.
• The Take It or Leave It Shed to drop off your used stuff (in good condition) and browse for items.  The shed is open year round during regular hours.
• Disposal of bulk items including tires, appliances, furniture, mattresses, and electronics for a nominal fee.

Hours of Operation:  Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 3pm and Wednesday from 7am to 7pm
