WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM OPERATOR

The Town of Ayer, Massachusetts is seeking a self-motivated highly qualified applicant for the position of Water Distribution System Operator for the Department of Public Works Water Division.  The Water Division is responsible for supplying, treating, and distributing quality drinking water to Town of Ayer customers.

The duties of this position include:

1.  Assist in maintenance and construction of the Town’s water distribution system.

2.  Perform hydrant inspections, valve and hydrant exercising and flushing.

3.  Perform water quality sampling and analysis.

4.  Operate various types of equipment including large trucks and medium-sized construction equipment.

5.  Respond to emergencies involving water main and service leaks and stoppages; restore service.

6.  Maintain accurate records of work performed.

Candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Possession or ability to obtain a CDL B Driver’s License, Massachusetts Hoisting License, Water Operator License Grade 2D, and Backflow Surveyors License during the first six months of probationary period.

Rate of pay $22.40 - $26.12 per hour and license increments of up to $2.72 per hour.
