Parks & Recreation

Signups for Spring Youth Sports are underway!  Baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball are currently accepting registrations for programs that will be starting soon.  For details on how to sign up as well as dates, times, costs etc., please visit the corresponding webpage for each activity.  A calendar for summer camps and clinics being offered through the Parks Department will be available around mid-March.  Swim lesson information will be available around mid-April.

The Commission discussed future proposals to build at Pirone Park would be considered only if the abutters are consulted before, public input is weighed, and the proposed location is in an area that is not being used in any capacity for open space or recreation.  This is in addition to initial requirements that were voted on by the Commission when Pirone Park was first considered.

The Ayer Park Department consists of five commissioners each elected for three year terms charged with the responsibility of seeing to the recreational needs of the town by providing clean and well groomed park and beach facilities as well as safe, appealing recreational programs for members of the community. The department employs a full time Supervisor of Recreation and Maintenance, as well as seasonal swimming instructors, lifeguards and maintenance personnel responsible for overseeing the management and maintenance of Pirone Park and Sandy Pond Public Beach. The Parks Commission also delegates subcommittees to run town sponsored recreational activities such as Ayer Youth Basketball and Ayer Youth Soccer.

The Park Commission meets once each month or as posted at the Parks Office at 35 Bligh Street. The public is invited to attend, and any input from the community is welcome. If you wish to contact the Parks Department, please call 978-796-5915 or email us.
