Construction Notification - Sandy Pond Road Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation

Starting the week of December 4th, 2023, The Ayer Department of Public Works (DPW) and its Contractor, Vortex Companies, will commence a project to rehabilitate the Town’s sewer main on Sandy Pond Road.

The project includes the installation of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) inside the existing sewer main underneath Sandy Pond Road, in the limits of Westford Road to the Central Avenue Pump Station. The project does not involve any excavation of the roadway. The Contractor will access the sewer main by opening sewer manholes covers in the roadway to install the cured-in-place pipe inside the existing sewer pipe.

The Contractor’s work zone will vary as work progresses, and generally will be limited to a few hundred feet in length each day. Police Officers will control one lane of alternating traffic around each day’s work zone.

No detours are planned for this project.

Residents will continue to have normal sewer service during the entirety of the project unless notified.

A week prior to installing pipe liners, the Contractor will provide door hanger notification to residents with homes connected to the sewer scheduled for lining. This notice will inform residents to limit water/sewer usage on the day the lining work takes place.

Work hours are planned for Monday-Thursday, between 7AM – 5PM. Ayer DPW and its Consulting Engineer, Arcadis, will be on site inspecting the work. If you have questions, please call DPW at 978-772-8240 (7:30 to 3:30) or email mhernon@ayer.ma.us.
