Sandy Pond Beach Reopening

In June 2020, a difficult decision was made to close the Sandy Pond Beach swimming area due to health concerns for patrons and staff members as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the past year, conditions have improved significantly.  Restrictions put in place at the state and local level, including strict mask-wearing and social distance requirements have been effective in slowing the spread of the disease, and a vaccine is now widely available.  Therefore, Sandy Pond Beach will reopen for swimming in 2021 for its usual dates of Memorial Day through Labor Day with some restrictions in place, such as limited capacity adhering to state and local guidelines, and social distance spacing, to ensure the safety of the staff members and the community.

This will also include a policy for resident use only during 2021, which will be revisited by the Parks Commission following the 2021 swim season.  As in previous years, those visiting the facility will need to show proof of residency with a picture identification such as a driver’s license or MA state ID card.  Ayer residents who do not have one or wish not to bring one may obtain a residency card at Sandy Pond Beach when a gate attendant is present, or by contacting Heather Hampson at 978-772-8220 x114 to set up an appointment at Town Hall.

We look forward to seeing Sandy Pond Beach being reopened and hope our community continues to get healthier so we can return to a full state of normalcy in the near future.
