School Street Sidewalk Project

The Town of Ayer received a Complete Streets Grant from MassDOT to construct a new sidewalk on School Street, from East Main Street to Pirone Park!

The sidewalk will be located in the Town Right-of-Way on the west side of the street (odd numbered side). The sidewalk will generally be 5-feet wide and consist of vertical granite curb and cement concrete walk. Additionally, a rain garden and pathway connection will be constructed at Pirone Park.

Anticipated work sequence:

  • Remove existing sidewalks and install rain garden/drainage
  • Install curbing
  • Construct sidewalks and ramps
  • Pave driveway aprons
  • Tie-in Grades at back of walk, loam/seed

The Town has procured a contractor, D’Ambrosia, Inc., to perform the work. They will begin staging equipment/materials over the next week and will tentatively begin work October 19th. The project is expected to take 3 weeks, weather permitting. Planting/seeding will likely be completed in the Spring.

The road will be closed to through traffic during construction hours but will be open to the local residents and public safety vehicles.
