Veteran's Memorial Garden
AYER VETERAN MEMORIAL GARDEN
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Memorial Garden committee of Ayer plans to install a new plaque to continue the tradition of honoring Ayer military Veterans and is seeking Veterans who qualify to participate. Veterans who have Ayer as their home of record on their DD form 214 or who have resided in Ayer for not less than 10 years who’ve served honorably and are not recognized elsewhere qualify to have their names added to this plaque. They will be invited to participate in a future ceremonial unveiling.
Jim Fay, Veteran Memorial Garden Chair says, "A new plaque is needed now to commemorate Ayer Veterans who aren’t on the plaque installed in 2010 and to allow for future Veteran recognition. Town Meeting in 2003 approved establishing a granite plaque honoring Veterans of Ayer. That plaque was installed in 2010 featuring eighty-eight names. There are twenty-nine names to be added.”
Deadline for acceptance of applicants is 31 July 2017. A Memorial Garden Veteran Recognition Application is available on the town website at https://www.ayer.ma.us/memorial-garden-committee or in the Selectman’s office in Town Hall. It must be accompanied by a Form DD-214 (personal military history), which will be reviewed for authenticity and approval by the Memorial Committee. A family member is invited to complete and submit the application if the Veteran is deceased.
The Memorial Garden Committee meets at the call of the Chair in Town hall. Further information may be obtained from the Town of Ayer website www.Ayer.ma.us. Or contact the committee at memorialgarden@ayer.ma.us
