2017 Recycle Your Reusables was a great success!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Recycle Your Reusables was a great success!

The 9th annual Recycle Your Reusables was a tremendous success! Over 600 people, a 25% increase from last year, travelled from near (Ayer) and far (Taunton) to divert more than 15 tons of material from local landfills, including:

  • 1500 lbs of arts and crafts supplies
  • 4800 books, CDs and DVDs
  • 109 dehumidifiers
  • 8 tons of electronics
  • 250 lbs of fire extinguishers
  • 250 gallons of usable latex paint
  • 38 lbs of LED holiday lights
  • 2.1 tons of paper for shredding
  • 2.6 tons of scrap metal
  • 60 cubic yds of styrofoam
  • 3500 lbs of textiles

In addition, the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry received almost $2000 and 600 pounds of food to help its clients.

I would like to thank our generous sponsors: Social Catalysts Charitable Foundation, Catania Oils, James Normington (Edward Jones Westford), Phoenix Park, Main Street Bank, Dunkin Donuts (Ayer), CPF/Pepsi, Gervais Ford, Ayer Shop ‘n Save, the Cottage, Village Pizza (Shirley), Roux's, the Parthenon, the Bull Run, Verona, the Nashoba Club, the Shirley Sub Shoppe, the recycling committees of Townsend and Groton and the Town of Littleton.

I would also like to thank our amazing crew of over 70 volunteers, too many to name here. Please know that you are all greatly appreciated.

Thanks and much appreciation to Ayer Transfer Station employees Andrew Jackson and Frank Mavilia and to Ray Maillet, Ayer-Shirley Regional Middle School custodian.

It’s not too early to start planning for next year. The 10th annual Recycle Your Reusables is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 20 2018. See recycleyourreusables.wordpress.com for details. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, contact ayerrecycles@gmail.com
